Howard G. Adams, 88, of Waucoma, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stapleton, rural Waucoma. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Howard Gordon, son of John and Dorothy Van Brocklin Adams, was born November 23, 1924, in Fayette County, Iowa. He graduated from Waucoma High School in 1941. He attended Luther and Upper Iowa College for a year and a half prior to joining the U.S. Army in July of 1944, where he served as a medical technician for two years. he returned home and farmed and worked at Deere & Company for twenty-three years. He taught Sunday School for many years. He was a quiet man until in 1976, when he married Evelyn, Tammy and Pete Blue! He enjoyed vacations with them and had a trailer at the river for twenty-three years. He did woodworking as a hobby and could fix anything. He was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan. His life was his family; kids, grandkids, and a great grandson. Five years ago he had a bad stroke which slowed him down, but still enjoyed the kids and grandkids. He continued to enjoy church and school functions with the grandkids. Howard was a member of the Jolly Old-timers and a longtime member of the Waucoma American Legion.
Howard is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Waucoma; one daughter, Tammy (Kevin) Winter of Waucoma; one son, Pete (Sue) Blue of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Joel (Darcy) Martin, and Randee, Shelbee, and Tanner Winter; one great grandson, Ashton Martin; one sister, Dorothy Ruth Fisher of Janesville; one brother, Freeman Adams of Waucoma; four brothers-in-law, Ernie (Marty) Northrop of Sumner, Kenny (Leslie) Northrop of Floyd, James Boeckman and friend, Sharon of Readlyn, and Ralph Adams and friend, Deb of Waucoma; two sisters-in-law, LeeAnn (Al) Blue of Waucoma and Marlys (Mike) Harmening of Ionia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Buck Fisher; and four sisters-in-law, Delma Knox, Jeanne Boeckman, Kathy Adams, and Betty Northrop.
